But not this game,not tonight.....

The Miracle starring Kurt Russell is a sports drama. One of the best.
It showcases the 1980 Winter Olympics where the rookie US ice hockey team upsets the Soviets who were a far superior and supposedly unconquerable team.

The Motivational speech just before their rendezvous with Soviets in Olympics is one of the best motivational monologues I have heard. It goes like

"Great moments are born from great opportunity.

And that's what you have here Tonight, boys.
That's what you've earned here tonight.

One game.

If we played them ten times, they might win nine.
But not this game.
Not tonight.

Tonight we skate with them.
Tonight we stay with them.
And we shut them down
because we can.

Tonight we are the greatest hockey team in the world.

You were born to be hockey players.
Every one of you.
And you were meant to be here tonight.
This is your time.
Their time is done.
It's over.

I'm sick and tired of hearing about what a great hockey team the Soviets have.
Screw them.

This is your time.
Now, go out there and take it.

Hold up here a second, guys.
We're just gonna wait for the okay.
Yeah.
We're all set.
All right.

Go ahead and send them in.
It's time.
-Let's go."

PS:Its was reported that the Indian team was shown this movie ,just before the SA tour of 2006 for motivating the Indian team.India went on the lose the ODI series 4-0.

Everyone hates Sanjaya Malakar

Who's Sanjaya Malakar?

There would hardly any one in The US of A who wouldn't recognize this name. This US citizen of Indian origin seems to have captured the imagination of the US public. They call him a part of mass conspiracy to defame American idol. They say he is a man stretching his luck. Some say he is someone with genuine charisma.
Love him or Hate him, there is no denying One just can't ignore him.

Sanjaya Malekar is, reportedly abysmally untalented American Idol contestant ,who has some how managed to remain in fray as the completion as boiled down to last 6 stage.

There are various theories floating around ,on why he is still there, like

1) His boyish charm and composure amidst all the negative criticism from the judges are getting him the vote from adoring Teenagers and sympathetic mamas

2)"The People who have ganged up to kill the credibility of the show have ganged up to "Vote for the Worst Candidate" which luckily for Sanjaya happens to be him. They include the votefortheworst website and Radio presenter Howard stern himself.
“. (I really like this one ...)

3) The Simon Cowell Baiters have put their weight behind Sanjaya. Simon Cowell had slightly jumped the gun and announced that he would rather resign than see Sanjaya become the Indian Idol.(Now it remains to be seen what Simon would do, if Sanjaya Actually goes on to win the title

3) And finally the theory put forth on a lighter note by "Jay Leno" in his Tonight Show. Sanjaya is winning because all call centers are being operations are being handled by Indians (mmm ...a slightly racial undertone here)

In a month and half it would be seen whether, Simon would get to remain in the show or would Sanjaya have the last laugh.

Will keep you updated ion the latest....

'Then it doesn't matter which way you go

"'Cheshire Puss,' she (Alice) began... 'Would you tell me, which way I ought to go from here?'

' That depends a good deal on where you want to get to', said the cat.

' I don't much care where...' said Alice.

'Then it doesn't matter which way you go,' said the cat.

Freak Economics

Finally completed the 'The Freakonomics'.So what have i learned from the book:
1)Never connect Economics with morality.Morality deals with the ideal world and Economics deals with the actual world.Always think twice ,before you include moral issues, while trying to get to the bottom of any issue.
2)Never belive a expert's data until they show you the source.
3)Experts in field sometimes hold on the one point of view and empahatically sing its praises, while not giving any strong argument against the rival point of view.
4)Most human actions are controlled by the incentive ,the action later presents.
5) Most supposed causes are normally just another co-related indicator of the issue in hand.

Hypocrites we all:Kamzor kadi kaun link!!

Still in the middle of Scott levitt's Freakonomics.
A curious bit of insight into the way the THE WEAKEST LINK (The orginal Kamzor Kadi kaun)proceeds.

One of the stratergy in the game is to remove all the weak players out of the game so that the incentives at the end is more.So the first step is to remove all the players you deem unsuitable for the game.
Peoples normal instinct target all against who whom they are prejudiced.
So lets see who are the people who get discriminated against.
The biggest chunk is supposed to be "the fairer sex" and "darker creed".So accordingly the percentage of women and AfroAmericans going during the intial round s should br pretty high.
But Here in the Hypocrisy comes in.Movement for women and the coloured people has been the the most publiscised and most powerful in the last 25 years. So people dont really want to give out the impression of ganging up against them. They have the social incentive of looking like virtuos liberal free thinking humans.
Wht gives this theory credibility is another class of people ,nameley the Aged and Hispanic, who donot have a strong movement for themselves often find themselves in the wrong end of the game.

Main point of the analysis is are people really racist at heart? Are they the same inside ,what they let people see from the outside.Te analysis could surely extend t the Indian context;to all those psuedo seculars round there.Talk show after talk show ,we see panelists attacking fellow panelists on their views abt a minority community, for talking without sense even when all the facts seem to stack up against the theory.
So if you are in a restpectable position in this country you are not supposed to say a few hings.Incentive for not saying those things is that you can keeps you where you are risk free.

Why am i doin wht i am doin

"So inscrutable is the arrangement between causes and consequences in this world that a two penny duty on tea unjustly imposed in a sequestrated part of it,changes the conditions of all of its inhabitants."

This is what Thomas Jefferson said about the Boston Tea Party. If one may remenber this incident catapulted the nation into full scaled American revolution.

Economics at root is supposed to the study of incentives .World till now hasnt encountered problem which cannotbe solved by giving proper incentive. However great the consequence may be,the intial problem would have been solved.

Social,Moral and Economic are the types of incentives. And often a new incentive acts as a trade off between two of these. And the trick is to balance the extemes.Another tricky proposition is that once a incentive is made the earlier incentive ceases to exist and would not automatically come bck once the new incentive is removed.

Humans by nature are cheaters.Because cheating usually gives a definite adv over those who dont.Thts a defnite incentive to cheat.Uncless there are greater incentive not to cheat we will go on cheating..
We need to raise the stakes. And hence the jail terms ,the social ostracization, the religious dikats.

And even as we ask why the crime rates are not going down,we need to realise that they are a lot lesser thatn the the earlier centuries.

The Nemesis is here

Great news to the piracy world!!!A full 3 hr film in ur hard disk within minutes.

The Justice prevails

So here we go....................
FA cup final today. Finally saw what i was wanted all season.Arsenal beat ManU 5-4 on penalties to end the season on a high.Man u domminated the match from the start ,but luck and arsenal goalie Lehmann conspired against them.Ball richtoched of the post twice.endless penalty box melee.End result.Nothing.Absolutely nuthing.
It may seem football is such a cruel game. But i guess its jst "wht goes around, comes around".In the 2 meeting prior to this one Arsenal had the lions share of possession and chances, but yet lost out to some brutish physical game and partial refreeing.Tactics changed this time around.Arsenal switched to 4-5-1 from traditional 4-4-2,played unattractively and got the result they wanted.
So finally the justice prevailed. The better team over the season had reasons to smile with a silverware in their cupboard at the end of the season.
